Rider Packs

Rider packs, including your bike plate must be collected at least 30 minutes before the start of your race.

Please allow ample time to attach your bike plate prior to the race start time.

50km MTB Event ~ 10:00am from Northcliffe Recreation Grounds

25km MTB Event ~ 12:00noon from Northcliffe Recreation Grounds

Race Briefing A race briefing will be held 15 minutes prior to the start of each event

Format

100km Karri Cup MTB Challenge ~ four 25km stages

50km MTB Challenge ~ two 25km stages (stages 1 & 4 of 100km event)

25km MTB Challenge ~ 1 stage of 25km

8km Enticer Event ~ 8km circuit

Teams ~ relay, each rider completes one or two stages

Track Markings

Directional arrows are placed at all major track deviations and at least every 500 metres along the course.

Each stage is marked with different coloured arrows:

  • Stage 1 - Blue

  • Stage 2 - Black

  • Stage 3 - Orange

  • Stage 4 - Red

Arrows pointing down on a diagonal indicate a hazard ahead;

  • one arrow - a hazard

  • two arrows - a severe hazard

  • three arrows - an extreme hazard

The suggested route across open paddocks is marked with witches' hats.

Difficult to see entry and exits from paddocks are marked with orange hi-vis bunting.

On Course Catering

Lunch can be provided to 100km riders at the end of stage 2. Please select the lunch option when you register.

Your own supplied foodstuffs will be transported to the lunch stop for you if left clearly labelled at the bag drop located on the veranda of the stadium at Northcliffe Recreation Grounds.

Water to refill hydration packs and fresh fruit are available at Hillbrook Winery (end of stages 1 and 3) and 45 Tinks Rd (end of stage 2).

Presentation Dinner

The ever-popular Saturday evening dinner will again have a great range of tasty and filling country style dishes including vegetarian.

Being Prepared to Ride

One of the many appealing factors of Mountain Biking is heading into the bush for an epic trail ride, being self-sufficient while you are out there and carrying all you need to get back safely.

Prepare

Below is a list of items we think you should bring to the Karri Cup MTB challenge.

It is by no means definitive and your planning for the event should include some research on what you will need.

  • Good quality trail proven Mountain Bike

  • Australian Standards approved cycling helmet

  • Spare tubes/Patches

  • Tyre pump

  • Multi tool

  • Chain tool

  • Hydration pack - 3 litre capacity per rider

  • Mobile phone - it will work in some areas...installing "Emergency Plus" app is highly recommended

  • Basic spares for your bike

  • Good quality chamois in your shorts

  • Your favourite chamois cream

  • Both full and half finger gloves

  • Sunglasses - bring a spare set just in case

  • Sunscreen

  • Additional nutrition

  • Small first aid kit

  • Insect repellent

Expect

  • Karri Cup MTB Challenge organisers will provide some support for all the riders.

  • There will be limited mechanical support at the Service Stops.

  • Medical emergency support and emergency communications.

  • Sweepers for those who don't make it to the finish of a stage.

  • A shuttle bus and bike trailer to transport early withdrawals back to the Northcliffe Recreation Grounds.

Rules and Policies

  • All riders must wear an Australian Standards approved cycling helmet.
  • All riders must wear suitable footwear.
  • Earpieces for mobile phones or portable music devices are not to be worn on course.
  • Smoking is not allowed on course.
  • Participants advising of their inability to compete up to the day before race start are eligible for a full refund of their entry fee.
